Who we are and what this covers

Ontario Furnace Prices publishes Ontario heating and cooling prices, calculators and guides, and passes quote requests to participating local heating and cooling companies. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and your choices under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Once a participating company receives your request, its own privacy policy also applies.

What we collect when you request a quote

Reading pages and using the calculators sends nothing about you to us. This tab's session storage notes the page you landed on and how you arrived, and that reaches us only inside a quote request you send. We receive personal information only when you select Request My Free Quote. The form then sends:

The consent sentence recorded with each request reads:

We never ask for payment details or your Social Insurance Number, and there are no user accounts.

What stays in your browser

The site sets no cookies. It uses session storage, which belongs to one browser tab and is normally deleted when you close it, for three items. Only your form answers and the landing page, referrer and campaign details reach us, and only inside a quote request you send.

The servers that deliver pages and receive the form see technical data such as your IP address, which our hosting and form-processing providers use to run the site and block abuse. Fonts and images are served from this site, not from any advertising or analytics company.

How we use it

  • To arrange your quote: confirm the details, find a participating company that serves your area and book a free in-home estimate.
  • To follow up on that request, for example after a missed call.
  • To keep a record of your consent and of any request to stop contact.
  • To see which pages and campaigns lead to requests.
  • To block spam and misuse of the form.

We do not use it for newsletters or unrelated offers.

Who receives it

Our booking team confirms the details and books the estimate. A call may come from a person or from an automated or AI-assisted assistant, and calls may be recorded or transcribed for accuracy.

A participating local heating and cooling company that serves your area receives your request to prepare the quote, carry out the estimate and, if you hire it, do the work. It is an independent business. The site is supported by the participating companies that receive quote requests; that support does not change the prices we publish.

Service providers that host the site and process and store form submissions may use the information only to provide those services. We also disclose information when the law requires it, such as under a court order.

We do not sell personal information to data brokers or list sellers, or give it to others for their own marketing. Service providers may process it outside Canada, under that country's laws.

How long we keep it

We keep a quote request, with the record of your consent, only as long as we need it to arrange and follow up on your quote and meet legal obligations, then delete it or make it anonymous. If you ask us to stop contacting you, we keep a short note of that so we can keep honouring it.

How we protect it

  • Pages and the quote form use encrypted HTTPS connections.
  • The form sends your request straight from your browser to our form-processing service, and the site's security settings block its pages from sending data anywhere else.
  • Access is limited to the people and services that need it.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as PIPEDA requires.

Your choices and rights

Stop calls and emails

You can withdraw consent at any time: tell the caller, or reply to any email about your request. The first call usually comes soon after a request arrives, so you can ask then. We act on it promptly, and within the 10 business days CASL allows. Each email about your request names the sender and explains how to stop further messages. If you have already dealt with a participating company, tell it too.

See, correct or delete your information

Ask the same way to see what we hold about you, how it was used and who received it, or to correct or delete it. We may need to confirm your identity, and we answer within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires. If you have never sent a quote request, we hold no name, phone number, email address or street address for you. If someone sent one using your details, ask us to delete it in any of these ways. If you are not satisfied, you can raise a concern with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

This site is for adults arranging work on a home they own or manage. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete a request when we learn a child sent it.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we will update this page and its effective date, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Questions people ask

Will my details be sent to lots of contractors?

No. A request goes to our booking team and a participating local heating and cooling company that serves your area. It is not posted for contractors to bid on, and we do not sell personal information to data brokers or list sellers.

Why does the quote form need my phone number?

Our booking team confirms the details and books the free in-home estimate by phone, so the form needs a number that reaches you. The call may come from a person or from an automated or AI-assisted assistant. The number is used only for your request and is never sold.

I sent a quote request by mistake. What should I do?

Tell the booking team when it calls, or reply to any email about the request, and ask for it to be cancelled and deleted. We stop contact and delete the request, keeping only a short note that you asked, so you are not contacted about it again.
