Ontario HVAC prices, every system on one scale

Typical 2026 installed prices for 15 heating, cooling and hot water systems in Ontario, before 13% HST. Each bar sits on the same dollar scale, so you can see at a glance how a furnace compares with a heat pump, a boiler or a mini-split.

How to read a price range

Every range here, as in the index on the Ontario Furnace Prices home page, describes the same job: a standard replacement in an existing detached home, with reusable ductwork and venting, before 13% HST. It is the band fair quotes for that job usually fall into, not a promise for yours.

One range, read three ways: a single-stage gas furnace, installed
Low end$4,000
A like-for-like swap: easy access, venting and ducts reused, an entry model, a quiet month.
Midpoint$5,250
A sensible budget figure before anyone has seen your house.
High end$6,500
Harder access, more labour, a better model within the tier, or a busy January week.

Extras such as new venting, ductwork changes or a gas line are priced on top of the range, not inside it.

Use the low end to spot a quote that leaves something out, the midpoint to set a budget and the high end to test a quote above it. A quote outside the range is not automatically wrong; ask what is different about your job.

What pushes a quote to the top of the range

The equipment sets the base price. The house sets most of the rest:

  • Venting. A new vent run or a chimney liner adds $300 to $1,500.
  • Ductwork. Transitions, a bigger return or reworked runs add $500 to $3,000+.
  • Electrical. Heat pumps often need a new circuit ($500 to $2,500), sometimes a panel upgrade ($2,000 to $4,500).
  • Access. Attics, crawlspaces and finished basements add labour hours.
  • Tier. Staged burners, variable-speed equipment and premium lines sit at the top of each band.
  • Timing. A January breakdown leaves little room to compare quotes.

Questions people ask

Are these prices quotes?

No. They are typical 2026 installed ranges, compiled from publicly posted Ontario contractor pricing, list-price guidance and typical installation scopes. Only a written quote after an installer has seen your home is a firm number. See how we estimate prices.

Do the prices include HST?

No. Every range is before 13% HST, which applies to the whole job, equipment and labour. Multiply by 1.13 to compare with a quote that includes tax: a $6,000 job is $6,780 with HST.

Why is the heat pump range so much wider than the furnace range?

A heat pump's price depends on its capacity, its cold-climate rating, whether your panel and ducts can handle it, and whether a furnace stays as backup. A whole-home ducted system runs $9,000 to $18,000. See heat pump prices for the breakdown.

Which heating system is cheapest to install in Ontario?

A single-zone mini-split ($3,500 to $6,500) and a single-stage gas furnace ($4,000 to $6,500) have the lowest entry prices. Cheapest to install is not cheapest to run, so compare yearly costs with the heating cost calculator.
