One family, three badges
Daikin is one of the world's largest air conditioning manufacturers. In North America it also owns Goodman, which builds the Amana badge too, so all three names come from the same manufacturing group. The furnaces share much of their engineering. What changes between badges is the positioning, the published warranty terms and the dealers who sell them. Against the provincial ranges on Ontario Furnace Prices, Daikin quotes sit toward the upper part of each furnace range and Goodman quotes toward the lower half.
Daikin
Parent company, based in Osaka, Japan. Bought Goodman in 2012.
Goodman
Value badge. Usually the lower half of each Ontario range.

Sister badge built by the Goodman company, marketed a step above Goodman.
Daikin
Own-brand furnaces, heat pumps and ductless. Mid to premium pricing.

What the Daikin badge adds
Daikin publishes its terms per model and changes them from time to time. Read the current Canadian certificate for the exact model on your quote; manufacturer coverage does not include labour.
Daikin or Goodman: the price gap
Because the badges are related, the fair question is what the Daikin name costs over a Goodman of the same type. Using the midpoints of our brand ranges:
- Single-stage
- +$1,000Daikin over Goodman
- Two-stage
- +$950Daikin over Goodman
- Modulating
- +$1,500Daikin over Goodman
What that buys is mostly the warranty certificate and the dealer behind it. Put the two written warranties side by side, parts years, unit replacement terms and registration rules, and decide whether the difference is worth it for your house. The installer's skill still matters more than either badge; see Goodman furnace prices for how to compare quotes fairly.
Where Daikin is strongest: heat pumps and ductless
Most Ontario homeowners know Daikin for ductless mini-splits and heat pumps rather than furnaces. That matters if you are thinking about cooling or lower gas bills: a Daikin dealer will often quote the furnace as part of a dual fuel system, where a heat pump heats the house in mild weather and the gas furnace takes over in deep cold. Our best heat pump brands guide covers how Daikin's heat pumps compare.
| System | Typical range | Range on a common scale |
|---|---|---|
| Gas furnace, two-stage96% AFUE, ECM blower | $5,500 to $8,000 | |
| Furnace and central AC togetherreplaced in one job | $8,000 to $15,000 | |
| Dual fuel systemheat pump with gas furnace backup | $11,000 to $20,000 | |
| Cold-climate heat pump, ductedwhole home, air source | $9,000 to $18,000 | |
| Ductless mini-split, single zoneone indoor head | $3,500 to $6,500 |
Heating Heats and cools. The tick marks the midpoint of each range.
On rebates the line is clear. A standalone gas furnace is not a heat pump rebate measure under Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program. In a dual fuel system the heat pump is the part that can qualify, pre-approval is required before installation, and programs change, so confirm the rules before you sign. Details are on our Ontario heat pump rebates page, and full system prices on heat pump prices.

What moves a Daikin quote
-
Badge over Goodman
Raises the price: About +$1,000 to +$1,500
The premium for the Daikin name and certificate on the same type of furnace, midpoint to midpoint.
-
Staging
Raises the price: +$1,450 to +$3,850
Single-stage to two-stage or modulating within the Daikin line.
-
Adding a heat pump
Raises the price: $11,000 to $20,000 as dual fuel
The full system price, not the furnace alone. Electrical work for the outdoor unit runs $500 to $2,500, more if the panel needs an upgrade.
-
Ductwork
Raises the price: +$500 to $3,000+
Heat pumps and variable-speed furnaces need enough airflow. Small returns or a cramped plenum add cost.
-
Right-sized capacity
Can go either way: Either way
A heat loss calculation, ideally to CSA F280, often allows a smaller furnace than the old one. It also sets the heat pump size in a dual fuel job.
Questions to ask a Daikin dealer
- Is this a Daikin-badged furnace, or a Goodman or Amana model from the same family?
- Which warranty certificate applies to this exact model, and what do the terms become if registration is missed?
- Is this furnace and thermostat ready for a heat pump if I add one later?
- If you quote dual fuel, what heat pump size is it, and which heat loss calculation is it based on?
- Does the price include the AC coil, or only the furnace?
- Is your company TSSA-registered for gas work, and what is the registration number?
Questions people ask
Is Daikin the same as Goodman?
Same family, different badges. Daikin owns Goodman, which also builds Amana, and the three share much of their engineering. Daikin-badged furnaces are positioned higher, usually with stronger published warranty terms and a higher price for the same type. Compare the model numbers and the certificates to see what the extra money buys.
Are Daikin furnaces made in Japan?
Daikin is a Japanese company, but the gas furnaces it sells in Canada are built in North America by the same manufacturing group that makes Goodman and Amana. For an installed price, where it was assembled matters far less than the model, the certificate terms and the quality of the installation.
Should I pair a Daikin furnace with a Daikin heat pump?
Matching brands makes it easier to get a matched, rated system and to use the brand's own controls, but it is not required for a working dual fuel setup. What matters is that the heat pump is sized from a heat loss calculation and the controls switch to gas at a sensible outdoor temperature.
Does the Daikin warranty cover labour?
No. Like other manufacturers, Daikin covers parts and, on some models, unit replacement, as long as the furnace is registered in time. The service call and the hours to fit a part are labour, covered only by your installer's labour warranty. Get its length and what it includes in writing before you sign.
