Where Lennox sits on the Ontario price index

Lennox is marketed as a premium brand and sold through independent dealers, not retail stores, so its furnaces are usually quoted in the upper half of each provincial range published by Ontario Furnace Prices. Measured against the Ontario midpoint for the same type of furnace, the premium works out to roughly $650 on single-stage and two-stage models and about $1,000 on modulating ones.

That premium does not buy efficiency on paper. Federal rules have required new gas furnaces for typical homes to reach at least 95% AFUE since 2019, so every furnace you are quoted in Ontario clears the same bar. The extra money goes to staging, a better blower, a quieter cabinet and, at the top, a communicating control system.

Lennox furnace tiers compared

Lennox groups its home furnaces into three series. Each series holds more than one configuration, so use the series as a guide to the tier and match the quote by staging and full model number.

What moves a Lennox quote

Two Lennox quotes for what looks like the same furnace can sit thousands apart. These are the usual reasons.

  1. Series and staging

Raises the price: About +$1,500 to +$2,600 per step

Midpoint to midpoint, Merit to Elite and Elite to Signature. The jump to modulating is the largest.

  2. The dealer

Can go either way: Either way

Dealers set their own prices. Overhead, crew size and how busy they are all show up in the number.

  3. Sizing

Can go either way: Either way

A room-by-room CSA F280 heat-loss calculation often shows the old furnace was oversized. A smaller unit costs less and runs longer, quieter cycles.

  4. Venting and drainage

Raises the price: +$300 to $1,500

New plastic venting or a chimney liner, plus a condensate pump ($150 to $350) if there is no floor drain nearby.

  5. Thermostat

Raises the price: +$150 to $600

A Signature furnace needs the Lennox communicating thermostat for its full feature set. Check that it is in the price.

Lennox compared with Carrier and Trane

Carrier and Trane are the natural comparison points at the upper end. Lennox and Trane land in the same band; Carrier's lower tiers start a little lower.

The gap between these brands is smaller than the gap between two dealers. For value brands and the whole field, see how furnace brands compare, or price your own home with the furnace cost calculator.

Warranty: what to check before you sign

Like the other major brands, Lennox ties its full parts term to registering the furnace within a deadline after installation. Miss it and coverage can fall to a shorter base term. The manufacturer covers parts, not the labour to fit them, so the installer's own labour warranty matters as much as the badge.

  • Ask who registers the warranty, and keep the confirmation
  • Get the labour warranty term written on the quote
  • Keep the invoice showing the model and serial number
  • Book yearly maintenance if the certificate asks for it

Questions to ask a Lennox dealer

  1. Which series and full model number are you quoting, and at what BTU input?
  2. Did you do a room-by-room heat-loss calculation, or size it from my old furnace?
  3. Is the price before or after 13% HST, and does it include the permit, venting, drain, thermostat and removal?
  4. Will the coil from my central air fit this cabinet, or does it need an adapter?
  5. Is your company registered with the TSSA, and what is the registration number?

Questions people ask

How much does a Lennox furnace cost installed in Ontario?

Typical installed prices in 2026 run $5,250 to $11,000 before HST, or $5,932 to $12,430 with it. A single-stage Merit sits at the low end, a modulating Signature Collection furnace at the top. Venting, a condensate pump or ductwork changes come on top.

Is a Lennox furnace worth the extra cost?

It can be, if you are paying for something you will notice: two-stage or modulating heat, a quieter variable-speed blower or communicating controls. Compare a Lennox quote against another brand at the same staging, not against a cheaper single-stage unit. Sizing and installation quality affect comfort more than the badge does.

Why are two Lennox quotes for the same house so different?

Usually the scope differs. One quote may include new venting, a condensate pump, a smart thermostat and the permit while the other leaves them out, or the two dealers quoted different series. Ask both for the full model number and an itemized list, then compare line by line.

Does Lennox offer rebates on furnaces in Ontario?

Manufacturer and dealer promotions come and go, so ask the dealer to show any promotion on the written quote. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program does not treat a standalone gas furnace as a heat pump rebate measure (program terms, checked October 4, 2026). Programs change, so confirm before you buy. See Ontario HVAC rebates.

Can I buy a Lennox furnace myself and hire someone to install it?

Lennox sells through dealers rather than retail stores. In Ontario, gas appliance installation must be done by a TSSA-registered contractor, and most contractors install only equipment they supply, because they carry the labour warranty and handle the warranty registration.
