The Trane connection, explained plainly
American Standard and Trane heating equipment comes from the same company, Trane Technologies, and is built on a shared equipment family. The name reached the heating business through a parent company that also owned Trane. When that company split up in 2007, the heating and cooling business kept both names. The bathroom fixtures sold as American Standard are a separate business.

Usually shared
- Engineering and factories
- Many core parts and components
- Staging options at each tier
Where they can differ
- Badge and series names
- Dealer network and pricing
- Warranty wording and registration terms
For you, the practical upshot is simple: at the same staging the equipment is broadly comparable, so compare dealers, scope and price rather than the badge, and check each quote against current Ontario furnace prices.

Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers
Each series spans more than one model, so match a quote by staging and model number, not by the metal name. Warranty cells describe the usual structure, not the terms of a particular model.
Like Trane, American Standard ties its full parts term to registering the furnace within a deadline after installation, and an unregistered furnace can fall back to a shorter base term. The manufacturer covers parts only. Ask the installer who registers it, how long their labour warranty runs, and get both in writing with the model and serial number.
Which tier fits your house
The right tier depends more on the house than on the badge. Use this as a starting point, then let the heat-loss calculation confirm the size.
| Your house | Tier to price first |
|---|---|
| Bungalow or smaller, well-sealed home | Silver. A correctly sized single-stage furnace runs fine here; spend the difference on sizing and duct fixes. |
| Two storeys with a cold upstairs, or central air | Gold. Long low-stage runs and a variable-speed blower even out floors and help the AC. |
| Large or open-plan home, long stay planned | Platinum. Modulation keeps the temperature steady and makes sense over a long ownership. |
Sizing comes first: try the furnace size calculator, then ask for a CSA F280 room-by-room calculation.
What moves an American Standard quote

Raises the price: About +$1,500 to +$2,350 per step
Silver to Gold, then Gold to Platinum, midpoint to midpoint.

The same furnace can be priced very differently by two dealers. Two or three quotes show you the local spread.

Add-ons
Raises the price: +$300 to $1,500 and up
Venting or a chimney liner, a condensate pump ($150 to $350) and ductwork changes ($500 to $3,000+) sit on top of the tier price.

American Standard against other brands
At the middle tier, American Standard and Carrier Performance quotes fall in a similar band ($6,000 to $8,000 for a two-stage Carrier). For a lower comparison point, a value brand such as Goodman is positioned toward the lower half of each range. The full field is in how furnace brands compare.
Questions to ask an American Standard dealer
- Which series and full model number is this, and is it single-stage, two-stage or modulating?
- How did you size it, and what BTU input did you choose?
- Does the Platinum price include the communicating thermostat it is designed for?
- What is included: venting, drain, permit, thermostat, removal?
- Who registers the warranty, and what labour warranty do you give?
Questions people ask
How much does an American Standard furnace cost installed in Ontario?
Typical 2026 prices run $4,500 to $10,500 before HST ($5,085 to $11,865 with 13% HST). Silver single-stage furnaces sit at the low end, Gold two-stage around $6,900 at the midpoint, and Platinum modulating furnaces at the top.
Is American Standard the same as Trane?
Not the same brand, but the same maker. Both come from Trane Technologies and share an equipment family, so models at the same staging are broadly comparable. Series names, dealers, warranty wording and pricing differ, which is why a quote for each is worth having.
Is the furnace brand related to American Standard toilets?
Not any more. The bathroom fixtures and the heating and cooling equipment once sat under one parent company, which split up in 2007. The heating and cooling business went with Trane, while the plumbing fixtures became a separate business that still uses the name.
Can an American Standard system get an Ontario rebate?
A standalone gas furnace is not a heat pump rebate measure under Home Renovation Savings (program terms, checked October 4, 2026). A qualifying heat pump paired with a furnace may be eligible, with pre-approval required before installation. Programs change, so confirm before you buy. See heat pump rebates.
